The Good Food Institute (GFI) has acquired essential cell lines and growth media from SCiFi Foods, a cultivated meat company that shut down in 2024. In collaboration with Tufts University Center for Cellular Agriculture, GFI plans to make these resources available to researchers in the cultivated meat sector, reducing costs and speeding up development. This acquisition includes bovine cell lines and serum-free growth media that have been developed for high-efficiency suspension cultures, saving researchers time and money.

The partnership with Tufts marks the first time that suspension-adapted bovine cells will be broadly accessible, a significant step forward in cultivated meat research. By providing researchers with these resources, GFI aims to facilitate progress in the industry and shift the focus from costly cell line development to improving production processes. This move is seen as a "jump-start" for researchers, enabling them to advance their work and potentially accelerate the growth of the cultivated meat industry.
