Gouda Riddance: Dutch Company Spins Off Dairy to Go Fully Vegan, Aims for Europe-Wide Launch by 2026

Dutch dairy company Boermarke, in response to the growing demand for plant-based alternatives, has made the decision to pivot to a fully vegan product lineup. The company, which has been in operation since 1987, will spin off its dairy division and hopes to launch its vegan products across Europe by 2026. Boermarke has already been successful in the plant-based market with its brand Vairy, offering coconut yoghurts, plant milk bases, vegan cheeses, and ice cream.

This shift in production aligns with consumer trends in the Netherlands, where sales of alt-milk have been growing while traditional dairy sales have been declining. Despite facing challenges such as upcoming tax increases on plant-based milk and restrictions on labelling due to EU regulations, Boermarke aims to overcome these obstacles and make its alt-dairy products available at supermarkets across Europe in the coming years.
