Gourmey’s Cell-Cultivated Meat Application Approved by UK Food Agencies

Gourmey, a cell-cultivated meat company, has made history by becoming the first of its kind to receive regulatory validation in the UK from both the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS). This milestone paves the way for Gourmey to offer its cultivated meat products to consumers in the country, as it moves into the next stage of risk assessment, following approvals in other regions such as the European Union and Switzerland.

The company's innovative approach to producing cultivated meat includes utilizing a 5,000-liter bioreactor system, which has been validated to produce meat at a cost of $3.43 per pound. Gourmey has also partnered with DeepLife to optimize production at scale through AI-driven cellular technology, with the goal of improving growth conditions, nutrient density, and flavor expression in their products. As Gourmey continues on its regulatory journey, CEO Nicolas Morin-Forest expressed excitement about working closely with regulatory bodies and partners to ensure the highest standards of safety and transparency ahead of commercialization.
