Happy Plant Protein Raises €1.8M for Technology Empowering Local Food Manufacturers to Produce Plant Protein

Happy Plant Protein, a spinout from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, has raised €1.8 million in funding to develop and license its patented technology for producing plant proteins with existing extrusion machinery. This technology aims to empower local food manufacturers to produce their own high-quality plant proteins, reducing the need for imports and accelerating new product development. The process is more affordable and sustainable compared to traditional methods, using significantly less energy and water while generating no waste.

Happy Plant Protein plans to license its technology to extrusion facilities worldwide, potentially reducing investment and operating costs by up to 90% for plant protein production. The company's CEO highlights the importance of cost-efficient and environmentally sustainable methods for producing protein ingredients, in order to ensure food security and make food manufacturing more sustainable. By extracting plant proteins from legumes using standard extrusion, Happy Plant Protein aims to offer a solution for incorporating these ingredients into various plant-based food products.
