‘High Welfare’ RSPCA-Approved Scottish Salmon Linked To Animal Abuse

A recent investigation revealed instances of animal abuse and cruelty on salmon and trout slaughter boats in Scotland, with workers throwing sentient fish and leaving them to suffocate. Footage showed fish being forced through stun-kill machinery in a chaotic and overcrowded environment, leading to suffering and death. Workers were also observed throwing dead and dying fish overboard, posing a biosecurity risk.

The salmon farm supplying the fish, Loch Duart Ltd, is accredited by RSPCA Assured and Friends of the Sea, claiming that fish welfare is a priority. This comes as a shock to many, as the footage captured by Animal Equality showed fish bleeding and suffering during the transportation and slaughter process. Animal Equality has reported the findings to the authorities in hopes of bringing accountability and stronger protections for farmed and slaughtered fish.
