Indian Cultivated Meat Company ClearMeat Partners With Academic Institution NIFTEM to Scale Food Tech Innovation

ClearMeat, an Indian cultivated meat company, has partnered with the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM-K) to scale innovation within the biotech and foodtech sectors. The collaboration aims to combine the expertise and resources of both organizations to revolutionize the cultivated meat sector. NIFTEM, operating under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, supports research and education within the food processing sector.

ClearMeat, known for developing cultivated steak and keema, along with cell growth media free of controversial ingredients, is working towards gaining regulatory approval in India. A study in 2022 highlighted the potential of cultivated meat to transform the Indian food system in a sustainable manner, but noted that investment would be crucial for its viability. The partnership with NIFTEM reflects a shared vision for a sustainable and technologically advanced food future, with the aim of addressing threats such as climate change, pandemics, and economic instability through innovative food technology solutions.
