Ingredion Wins EU Clearance for Carrot-Derived Prebiotic Acquired From NutriLeads

Ingredion has received clearance from the European Commission for its Benicaros prebiotic fiber, derived from a rhamnogalacturonan-I enriched carrot extract sourced from carrot pomace. The ingredient, acquired from NutriLeads, can now be used in foods, beverages, and dietary supplements across the EU market. It is plant-based, kosher, halal, and gluten-free, with potential benefits for gut health and immune function.
The approval follows an asset deal in June 2026 that transferred ownership of the intellectual property, trademarks, and manufacturing know-how of the ingredient from NutriLeads to Ingredion. The company sees Benicaros as a valuable addition to its functional ingredients offering, with versatility and health benefits that align with its portfolio. It is water-soluble, stable in various conditions, and does not impact the taste or texture of finished products, making it an appealing option for manufacturers looking to enhance the fiber content of their products.
