German biotechnology company Innocent Meat has raised €6 million in a new financing round to support the development of its automated production technology for cultivated meat. Founded in 2020, the company focuses on industrial-scale production systems for cell-based meat, with a platform designed to automate the entire production process from initial cell cultivation to final meat product, requiring minimal technical expertise from the user. The funds will be used to establish the company’s first demonstration plant, develop scalable infrastructure, and pursue regulatory approvals in initial target markets, with plans to enter the market in 2028.

Investors, including GENIUS Venture Capital GmbH, have shown continued interest in the cultivated meat sector, supporting companies like Innocent Meat. GENIUS Managing Director Uwe Bräuer emphasized the need for more effective regional funding mechanisms to support startups in advanced technologies, highlighting the importance of financial support in the startup phase for companies driving radical and disruptive innovations. Innocent Meat's plug-and-play production model aims to reduce entry barriers for traditional meat producers looking to incorporate cultivated meat into their operations, positioning the company for market entry in 2028 pending regulatory approvals.
