Investments in Alternative Proteins Total $443 Million in First Half of 2025

The alternative protein sector saw significant investment activity in the first half of 2025, with a total of $443.45 million invested across 54 deals. Plant-based and fermentation technologies received the most funding, with plant-based products attracting $213.81 million and fermentation technologies securing $198.7 million. Cultivated protein, although a smaller segment, also received notable investments totaling $30.9 million. Meat substitutes were the most popular product category for investment, with plant-based meat alternatives receiving the largest share of funding at $211.57 million.

Several standout investments were made in the first half of the year, including Beyond Meat receiving $100 million in debt financing and Liberation Labs raising $50.5 million for precision fermentation. Other companies such as Vivici, Heura, and Aleph Farms also secured significant amounts in funding for their fermentation and plant-based meat products. The investment landscape of the alternative protein sector in 2025 shows stability and a growing interest in fermentation technologies, particularly in the dairy and ingredient sectors, alongside continued support for plant-based products.
