James Cromwell is taking on Starbucks' vegan milk surcharge by starring in a video alongside PETA to pressure the coffeehouse giant to drop the extra charge for plant-based milk. The video features Cromwell playing a fictional Starbucks executive charging customers extra for vegan milk and highlights the negative impact of the dairy industry on the environment. Starbucks has dropped its vegan milk surcharge in some countries but continues to impose it in the United States, where it operates over 16,000 locations.

In addition to Cromwell, other celebrities like Alicia Silverstone and Sir Paul McCartney have also called on Starbucks to drop its vegan milk surcharge. The heated debate over plant-based milk extends beyond Starbucks, with legislators introducing bills like the ADD SOY Act to offer soy milk as an alternative in the National School Lunch Program in response to the high rate of lactose intolerance among children.
