Actress and activist Joanna Lumley is calling on the UK government to fulfill its promise to ban cages for egg-laying hens after viewing disturbing footage from an egg production facility. The video, shot by Open Cages at Carr Farm in East Yorkshire, shows hens in overcrowded colony cages with dead birds scattered around, highlighting excessive animal cruelty.

Despite the ban on traditional battery cages in 2012, the use of "enriched cages" in the UK is still allowed, with minimal improvements in living conditions for hens. Activists criticize the government for not taking meaningful action to protect caged hens and point out that other European countries have already banned cages. The footage has led to outrage over the inhumane treatment of hens in egg production facilities and calls for both battery and colony cages to be prohibited.
