Competitive eater Joey “Jaws” Chestnut is set to attempt a new food challenge, aiming to eat 99 Impossible Nuggets at an upcoming baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. The event, organized by Impossible Foods, will see Chestnut face off against a fan in the “99/9 Challenge” to consume the meat-free nuggets within the nine innings of the game.

Fans were invited to apply to compete against Chestnut by submitting a video explaining why they want to take on the challenge. The winner will receive free tickets to the game, flights to San Francisco, and a hotel stay. Chestnut, known for holding numerous eating records, expressed excitement for the plant-based challenge and the opportunity to combine his love for chicken nuggets with baseball.

Since accepting sponsorship from Impossible Foods in 2024, Chestnut has been barred from competitions like Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest due to his affiliation with a competitor brand. Despite this, he has continued to work with Impossible Foods and recently won his 17th title by consuming 17.5 hot dogs and buns. Impossible Foods highlights the environmental benefits of its plant-based products, such as the Impossible Nuggets, which require less water, land, and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to animal-based alternatives.
