Lidl is currently offering two types of vegan caviar, Japanese-style Seaweed Pearls, under its Vitasia brand. These vegan alternatives to caviar are primarily made from seaweed and are available in black and orange, each with a delicate flavor that works well in sushi. The Seaweed Pearls previously appeared on shelves last year, but were recently reintroduced, sparking interest among vegan communities online.

Lidl has seen a significant increase in plant-based sales, reporting a 700 percent growth last year. The supermarket has been voluntarily sharing data on its protein sales, including plant-based foods, and has called for the UK government to implement plant-based targets in healthy food sales reporting.
