Lidl has been named the cheapest supermarket in the UK to buy vegan Christmas food, with prices up to 50% lower than Waitrose and Marks and Spencer. A study by Little Loans compared the costs of nine plant-based festive staples, including nut roasts, roast potatoes, and vegan gravy, with Lidl coming out on top at a total of £8.83 for all items. The affordable vegan options at Lidl include a Vegan Sausage and Cranberry Wreath pastry dish, as well as other party foods, sides, and starters.

Morrisons and Aldi followed closely behind Lidl in affordability, while Waitrose and Marks and Spencer were found to be almost double the price for the same festive items. Despite misconceptions that vegan food is expensive, studies have shown that a plant-based diet can be more affordable and healthier than diets containing meat and dairy, with staples like beans, lentils, and fruits being both cost-effective and beneficial for overall health and well-being.
