Lidl, Nestlé and Oatly Among 90+ Contributors to Brief Urging EU Food System Action Plan

A coalition of over 90 organisations, including Lidl, Nestlé, and Oatly, has released a policy brief urging EU institutions to implement an Action Plan for a healthy, sustainable, resilient, and just food system. The brief, based on the 2025 EAT-Lancet Commission's findings, emphasizes the importance of a dietary transition towards more fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and whole grains to prevent premature deaths.

The brief highlights the universal demand for public procurement criteria based on the Planetary Health Diet, with a focus on schools, hospitals, prisons, offices, and elder care homes. Other policy packages include value chain development, fiscal and economic support, labelling and advertising rules, research and innovation funding, and trade and market rules. The document also showcases differing opinions within the coalition, such as differing views on VAT cuts and reformulation incentives.
