Los Angeles City Council Just Endorsed Global Plant-Based Treaty

The Los Angeles City Council recently endorsed the global Plant-Based Treaty, which aims to address climate issues by freezing the expansion of animal agriculture. California, being home to the country's largest dairy industry with 1.7 million cows, is taking action to combat the devastating impact of animal agriculture on the environment. Councilmember Paul Koretz emphasized the importance of combating climate change and improving health by supporting the Plant-Based Treaty, inviting other cities to follow suit.

Inspired by treaties addressing ozone layer depletion, the Plant-Based Treaty has already garnered support from 20 cities, 59,000 individual endorsers, and 5 Nobel laureates. The treaty aims to pressure national governments to negotiate a global treaty addressing the impacts of animal agriculture through principles like halting deforestation, incentivizing plant-based food systems, and promoting public outreach about plant-based diets. By endorsing the Plant-Based Treaty, Los Angeles is taking a vital step towards creating a more sustainable world.
