Massive Attack’s Plant-Based Festival ‘Breaks World Record’

English trip hop band Massive Attack hosted a plant-based festival in Bristol last August, breaking a world record for its low carbon emissions. The Act 1.5 festival implemented various measures to reduce its environmental impact, such as using renewable energy, promoting eco-friendly transportation, and serving only plant-based food.

A report by the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research revealed that Act 1.5 produced 98 percent fewer emissions compared to a standard outdoor festival. The festival's focus on plant-based food and electric vehicle transportation significantly reduced catering emissions, although the emissions from attendees who flew to the event accounted for the majority. The success of Act 1.5 could set a precedent for future events to prioritize sustainability and reduce their climate impact.
