MBOLD, a coalition of Minnesota-based food and agriculture companies and nonprofit organizations, has launched the Protein Catalyst initiative to drive innovation in sustainable proteins. In partnership with leading organizations like General Mills and the University of Minnesota, the Protein Catalyst will focus on pre-competitive R&D, mentorship for protein innovation start-ups, and providing a gateway for companies to thrive in Minnesota's protein ecosystem.

The initiative aims to support high-potential startup and scale-up businesses in the development of plant-based proteins and incorporating diverse, climate-resilient crops into animal feed. By identifying and addressing pre-competitive needs for research, development, and commercialization support, the Protein Catalyst aims to create new markets for farmers and enable plant-based proteins to gain more market traction. The initiative is part of the MBOLD coalition, an initiative of the GREATER MSP Partnership, with a goal of collaborating across the value chain to deliver protein solutions that work for farmers, consumers, businesses, and the planet.
