McDonald’s Exec Says McPlant Was ‘Not Successful’ In The US

McDonald’s executive Joe Erlinger has stated that the McPlant burger will not be coming to US menus due to an unsuccessful trial run in two different markets – San Francisco and Dallas. Erlinger mentioned that the product was not successful and that US consumers are not seeking plant-based options at McDonald’s. However, he did note that the company will continue to monitor the situation to potentially revisit the decision in the future.

Although the McPlant burger has been successful in the UK, where it is entirely vegan, the US trial run included dairy cheese and egg mayonnaise by default. Additionally, the burger was cooked on the same grill as meat, making it less appealing to vegans and plant-based eaters. McDonald’s US has very limited plant-based options, with even the fries containing milk. As a result, those looking for plant-based fast food in the US may need to turn to all-vegan restaurants like Mr Charlie’s for alternatives.
