McDonald’s Is Finally Testing Its McPlant Burger at Select US Locations

McDonald's is finally testing its vegan-friendly McPlant Burger at select locations in the United States. The burger, made in partnership with Beyond Meat, features a Beyond Meat patty on a sesame seed bun with various toppings. However, the patties are cooked on the same grill as beef patties and the cheese and mayonnaise are not vegan, creating a risk of cross-contamination.

The trial will take place at eight McDonald's locations in the US beginning November 3, with the McPlant Burger priced similarly to the chain's animal-based burgers. This test will help McDonald's understand the impact of introducing a plant-based option on its operations. If successful, the McPlant Burger could potentially appear on menus nationwide in the future, potentially offering separate grills and vegan cheese.
