Meat-Free Restaurant Chain Clover Food Lab Seeks New Buyer to Avoid Closure

Vegetarian restaurant chain Clover Food Lab, known for its meat-free offerings, is facing closure if it doesn't find a new buyer by the end of May. The Cambridge-based chain, with 182 employees, has been struggling due to financial challenges exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic. This comes after the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2024 with new leadership and ambitious expansion plans.

The meat-free restaurant industry as a whole has been facing difficulties, with several establishments closing in recent years. Even popular chains like Planta have faced liquidation. Beyond Meat, a major player in the plant-based industry, has also seen a decline in revenue. Despite these challenges, there is still hope that Clover Food Lab will find a buyer to keep serving their farm-to-table fast food in the future.
