Meat Tax Should Be ‘On The Table’, Says Deliciously Ella

Deliciously Ella founder, Ella Mills, has expressed support for the idea of implementing a meat tax in the UK. She emphasized the environmental and health benefits of reducing meat consumption, citing a report that suggested the NHS could save billions annually if everyone in England switched to a plant-based diet. Despite Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's decision to scrap plans for a meat tax, Mills believes such considerations should be on the table.

Mills proposed that revenue from a meat tax could be used to make healthy, plant-based foods more affordable and accessible to the public. This aligns with a recommendation from the Climate Change Committee to promote plant-based foods as a way to reduce meat and dairy consumption. The Deliciously Ella brand, which Mills started after switching to a wholefood, plant-based diet due to health issues, has since expanded to offer various plant-based products in supermarkets and even opened a plant-based restaurant in London.
