Meet Bonnie and Clyde: Two Parakeets Who Finally Get to Spread Their Wings

Bonnie and Clyde, a pair of parakeets who were once trapped in a small, filthy cage by a pet trade breeder, are now living a vastly different life with their new owner, Chrissy Matthies. They now enjoy a spacious enclosure, fly, play, explore, and socialize with fellow rescued parakeets, Coconut and Rocky. Prior to being rescued, Bonnie and Clyde were forced to produce chicks for the pet trade at an alarming rate, leading to exhaustion and health issues.

PETA conducted an undercover investigation at the breeder, Creekside Birds, where they found around 10,000 parakeets confined in poor conditions inside a metal barn. Following the investigation, Creekside Birds was cited for numerous violations of the Animal Welfare Act. Bonnie and Clyde are now thriving in their new environment, but PETA continues to push for change in the treatment of birds in the pet trade industry, urging pet stores to stop selling birds and advocating for better care and protection of all birds.
