Meet the Cruel Cohort of UW Experimenters Who Kill Monkeys in Brain Tests

PETA is shining a light on the University of Washington's neuroscience department, adding three researchers to their Hall of Shame for subjecting monkeys to cruel and deadly experiments. Greg Horwitz, Robi Soetedjo, and Jonathan Ting have been found to drill into monkeys' skulls, pump viruses into their brains, and perform surgeries that leave animals dead or suffering from complications. These experimenters have a long history of breaking rules and mistreating animals, resulting in a high rate of complications and deaths among the monkeys they test on.

The trio of researchers have collectively received over $25 million from the National Institutes of Health since 2020, while subjecting monkeys to unnecessary and painful experiments. There have been scientific flaws in their experiments, including the use of monkeys with known health or psychological issues and injecting monkeys with viruses that do not meet clinical-grade standards. PETA is calling for action to shut down UW's primate research center to end the misery and incompetence that continues to harm animals.
