MeliBio’s Vegan Honey Expands European Presence with Aldi Deal

MeliBio's bee-free vegan honey, developed in collaboration with Narayan Foods, is making its way into Aldi/Hofer stores in Switzerland and Austria after launching in the UK. The product, known as Vegan Hanny or Ohney, will be sold under Aldi's private label Just Veg as part of a plan to expand throughout Europe. The honey is made using plant extracts like red clover, jasmine, and chamomile, addressing the decline in bee populations due to human activities and climate change.

MeliBio, a precision fermentation company that pivoted to plant-based honey, is looking to close its Series A funding round this year to support growth and expansion. By offering its product at an affordable price point, MeliBio aims to disrupt the $9.1 billion honey market with sustainable and ethical alternatives. Other brands in the space include Gaffney Foods, Blenditup, and Plant Based Artisan's Honea, all offering bee-friendly alternatives to traditional honey.
