Prosperity Organic Foods has acquired plant-based dairy company Miyoko’s Creamery after a dramatic bidding war, beating out a bid from founder Miyoko Schinner. Schinner, who was ousted from the company in 2023, is now asking the new owner to rebrand the company and return the rights to her name. Despite raising over $100,000 to try to buy back her company, Schinner acknowledges that the liquidators had a responsibility to accept the highest offer, which turned out to be from Prosperity Organic Foods.

The new owner has stated that they plan to continue honoring the brand roots and community of Miyoko’s Creamery, committing to the highest standards of quality, taste, and sustainability. However, Schinner is distancing herself from the company, emphasizing that they do not have the rights to use her name or image. After a series of contentious interactions with the CEO of Melt Organic, which is owned by the new owner, there has been backlash and calls for a boycott of Melt Organic products. Schinner remains focused on her mission to inspire people to create their own food products rather than rely on corporations.
