Metal Band With Vegan Singer Takes Home First Grammy Win

French metal band Gojira, fronted by vegan singer Joe Duplantier, made history by winning their first Grammy for Best Metal Performance at the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. The band, alongside opera singer Marina Viotti and composer Victor Le Manse, performed their song Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!) from the window ledges of the Concierge building, where Marie-Antoinette was once imprisoned.

Gojira, formed in 1996, has a strong history of supporting environmental causes and animal rights, including their partnership with Sea Shepherd. Duplantier actively advocates for veganism, participating in protests and starring in PETA ads promoting the vegan lifestyle. With his wife also a vegan activist, they are raising their children as vegans too, emphasizing the importance of not hurting animals.

Duplantier attributes his energy and endurance on stage to his vegan diet, highlighting the health benefits. The band, known for addressing animal suffering and environmental issues through their music, continues to use their platform to raise awareness and make a positive impact on the world.
