MicroHarvest Names Co-Founders Bekers and Roberz Co-CEOs Ahead of Leuna Plant Build

Hamburg-based biotechnology company MicroHarvest has appointed co-founders Katelijne Bekers and Jonathan Roberz as co-CEOs, with Bekers focusing on commercial expansion and Roberz overseeing production execution in Europe. The company has also promoted Jan-Philipp Birke as Chief Operating Officer and Justus Reich as Chief Financial Officer, preparing for the construction of its first industrial production plant in Germany.

MicroHarvest's Leuna plant, set to be completed by the end of 2028, will use biomass fermentation to produce proteins approved for use in aquaculture and pet food. With a focus on scaling production while meeting increasing market demands, the company aims to establish a strong production base in Europe with the help of its new leadership team and the support of Germany's federal EEW programme for energy and resource efficiency in industry. Through strategic expansion and technology development, MicroHarvest plans to continue its growth and market presence in the biotechnology industry.
