Midwest US Retail Chain Hy-Vee Adds Blackbird’s Plant-Based Pizzas Across 88 Stores

Plant-based food manufacturer Blackbird Foods has expanded its reach by introducing its frozen New York-style pizzas in 88 Hy-Vee supermarket locations across the US Midwest. The pizzas, available in three varieties, are made in New York City and feature Beyond Meat Beyond Pepperoni. Co-founder Emanuel Storch highlighted the company's mission of making restaurant-quality plant-based food more accessible, expressing excitement about bringing their pizzas to Hy-Vee shoppers.

Blackbird Foods, acquired by Ahimsa Companies in 2025, has been rapidly expanding its distribution, with products now available in over 3,000 retail locations nationwide. The company's lineup includes plant-based frozen pizzas, wings, and seitan products marketed as vegan, non-GMO, dairy-free, and cholesterol-free. The pizzas, with an overnight rising process for the dough, are designed to be oven-ready and cook in approximately eight minutes. The suggested retail price for the new Hy-Vee offerings is $9.99, further expanding accessibility to high-quality plant-based options in the Midwest.
