Moonpig Stops Selling Cards Featuring Pugs And French Bulldogs

Online greeting cards retailer Moonpig has stopped selling cards featuring pugs and French bulldogs due to concerns over their welfare. Campaigners, including PETA and veterinarians, warned that using images of breathing-impaired breeds in cute or humorous scenarios normalizes their suffering and contributes to the demand for flat-faced dogs. PETA is celebrating this move but plans to continue pressuring Moonpig to extend the ban to other BIBs like Boxers and Boston Terriers.

Breeding flat-faced dogs for aesthetic purposes causes them significant suffering, with issues such as labored breathing, poor temperature regulation, and early death being common. Despite their health problems, pugs have become increasingly popular in recent years, leading to concerns over the welfare of the breed. While Moonpig's decision is seen as a positive step, further efforts are being made to ban the breeding and ownership of flat-faced dogs and remove them from high-profile events like the Crufts dog show.
