A survey conducted by the Good Food Institute (GFI) India revealed that 94 percent of consumers in urban India would be willing to purchase and try cultivated meat. The survey included 32 participants in qualitative mini-group discussions and 414 respondents in an online survey, all aged 18-44, non-vegetarian graduates, and postgraduates from households earning at least INR 1.5 lakh per month.
The study found that most participants believed that cultivated meat performed better than traditional meat in various aspects, including animal welfare, the environment, food safety, healthiness, and nutrition. Additionally, a separate survey by Faunalytics showed that nearly 60 percent of young people in India are "meat-reducers" and 50 percent of non-reducers are open to veganism. The findings suggest a growing interest in alternative proteins in urban India.
