Plant Based News • Oct 17, 2026
A recent survey conducted by McCain Foods found that most UK farmers are facing financial pressures, extreme weather, and uncertainty over government policies, which are harming their business. Seventy-four percent of farmers reported that increasingly extreme weather is making it difficult to manage their farms effectively, with 27 percent citing climate change as a key financial pressure affecting the sector.
The survey also revealed that farmers are investing in sustainable practices, with 64 percent agreeing that sustainability is essential. However, 91 percent believe that more investment is needed to safeguard British food security, as rising costs and falling profits are negatively impacting the industry. McCain Foods has called for support from the government, farming sector, and partners to ensure a resilient food system for generations to come.
