Most UK Meat-Eaters Find Factory Farming Unacceptable, Vegan Society Survey Suggests

A survey by The Vegan Society found that 65% of UK adults consider factory farming of animals for food unacceptable, even though 82% of the respondents eat meat. This suggests that at least half of meat-eaters surveyed object to the system that produces most of the UK's meat. Additionally, 23% of respondents found organic animal farming unacceptable, indicating a growing concern over how animals are raised and used for food.

Opposition to animal testing for cosmetics has also increased, with 87% of respondents finding it unacceptable in the latest survey. The use of animals in activities such as greyhound racing and hunting deer is also becoming less accepted, while activities like horse riding and wearing sheep's wool remain widely accepted. The Vegan Society aims to challenge the idea that animals are only here to fulfill human needs and desires, advocating for more compassionate treatment of animals across different industries.
