MPs Call For End To ‘Blind Approval’ Animal Testing

MPs in the UK are calling for an end to "blind approval" animal testing, where labs are granted licenses for tests without full knowledge of the specifics. A new motion backed by 27 MPs aims to stop the approval of new generic service licenses and review existing ones. Animal rights organization Animal Aid has raised concerns about the suffering animals endure in these tests and the lack of accountability.

The government has pledged to transition away from animal testing, but progress has been slow. Despite the availability of alternative methods, there has only been a four percent decrease in animal testing from 2024 to 2025. Animal Aid is urging the government to halt unreliable toxicity tests and shift funding to more humane alternatives like AI and advanced cell models.
