The EAT-Lancet Commission has released a new report on healthy, sustainable, and just food systems, providing clear guidance on how to feed a growing population within planetary boundaries. By shifting diets to include more plant-based foods and less meat, dairy, and processed foods, up to 15 million premature deaths per year could be prevented. Food systems are found to be the largest contributor to transgressing planetary boundaries, with the potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions by over half.

Currently, less than 1% of the world's population is within the "safe and just space" where food needs are met within planetary boundaries. The report highlights the need for a fairer food system, outlining eight potential solutions to advance health, environmental, and justice goals. These solutions include promoting traditional healthy diets, reducing food waste, securing decent working conditions, and protecting marginalized groups, with the aim of creating a safe and just space for all people to flourish.
