New Evidence Supporting Animal Abuse Claim at Italian Pig Farms Supplying Prosciutto di Parma

International animal protection organization Last Chance for Animals (LCA) released new evidence of animal abuse at Italian pig farms supplying Prosciutto di Parma. The undercover footage captured between April and November 2024 exposed cruel conditions endured by pigs on farms run by Elio Martinelli, President of Assosuini, the Italian Pig Farmers Association. LCA provided proof that the footage was recent and verified with GPS data and dated newspaper clippings, leaving no doubt about the authenticity of the investigation.

The footage documented sows with pressure sores from gestation and farrowing crates, a worker violating Italy's Penal Code by killing a piglet without justifiable reason, and specific identifying "Parma Ham" tattoos on the pigs tying them to Prosciutto di Parma production. LCA filed a legal complaint addressing violations of Italian criminal and administrative laws with the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Mantua.
