New Exposé Shines Light On Lameness ‘Epidemic’ Among Dairy Cows

A new video from Animal Equality UK has uncovered the widespread issue of lameness among dairy cows in the UK. The footage shows cows suffering from the condition, unable to walk properly or even stand up due to various causes such as injury, poor hoof trimming, and standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time. Around 30 percent of cows in the dairy industry are affected by lameness, making it a major welfare concern for these animals.

The video also reveals instances of apparent animal abuse on UK farms, with cows being shackled by their legs and mistreated by farm workers. Despite laws in place to prevent unnecessary suffering to animals, many farming operations do not provide adequate care or seek veterinary advice for cows with lameness. Prosecutions for such illegal activities are rare, with only a small percentage of complaints leading to animal cruelty cases.
