A recent report by The Good Food Institute India highlights the critical skill gaps in India's plant-based and cultivated meat value chains. Despite producing a substantial number of graduates in relevant disciplines, there is a shortage of job-ready talent in areas like bioprocessing, cell culture, and novel food safety. The lack of hands-on exposure and smart protein-specific modules in academic institutions is hindering the sector's ability to scale efficiently.

To address these issues, GFI India recommends leveraging the National Education Policy 2020 to introduce smart protein electives, enhancing industry-academia partnerships to provide practical training, and establishing a national consortium for upskilling initiatives. By aligning curricula, training, and industry demand, India can position itself as a global hub for smart protein innovation while also promoting food security, sustainability, and economic growth.
