The Superlist Environment Europe is a new benchmarking initiative that evaluates major European supermarket chains on their climate strategies and efforts to promote more plant-based protein options. By providing a pan-European methodology, this tool aims to encourage supermarkets to take action towards a more sustainable and nutritious food system. The initiative will culminate in a comprehensive report in 2026, comparing supermarket commitments across eight European countries.

The methodology assesses various aspects including climate transparency, protein sales data, and in-store strategies. Retailers are provided with tailored recommendations to help them lead the protein transition both ethically and commercially. Rebalancing protein sales not only benefits the planet but also presents smart business opportunities in meeting consumer demand for sustainable choices and identifying new product opportunities.
