New Tetra Pak Bioreactor Promises Lower Costs From Pilot to Full-Scale Fermentation

Tetra Pak has introduced the Tetra Pak® Bioreactor RF, its first industrial bioreactor, catering to producers transitioning from pilot testing to full industrial production. Available in various sizes, the system aims to reduce operational costs by up to 12% and lower investment costs by up to 8% through a pre-assembled, factory-tested design that eliminates the need for separate support structures. The bioreactor features a patented magnetic agitation system that enhances power and oxygen transfer at larger scales, decreasing the risk of contamination and batch loss.

Automation features, self-adjusting controls, and integrated data monitoring are incorporated into the design to minimize manual intervention as fermentation processes progress. The system offers consistency across different sizes, simplifying training and operation for producers managing multiple scales or sites. Tetra Pak's launch of the Tetra Pak® Bioreactor RF follows its recent expansion efforts within its New Food division, including the acquisition of Bioreactors.net and the establishment of the New Food Technology Development Centre in Sweden in 2025. The company's aim is to enhance operational performance and reduce complexity for industrial fermentation processes.
