New York-based frozen pizza brand Blackbird Foods has been acquired by plant-based private equity firm Ahimsa Companies for an undisclosed sum. Founded in 2020 by chefs Emanuel Storch and Mike Pease, Blackbird Foods offers a variety of seitan and frozen pizza products available in over 3,000 stores across the US.

Following the acquisition, Blackbird Foods aims to collaborate and expand its brand to solidify its position in the market. The brand's acquisition by Ahimsa is part of a larger industry-wide consolidation effort, which includes previous acquisitions of companies like Simulate and Wicked Kitchen. With a shared-services model, Ahimsa aims to combine operations and expertise to support the growth and sustainability of its acquired brands, including Blackbird Foods.
