Nexture Bio Acquires Plant-Based Edible Scaffold Producer Matrix Food Technologies

Nexture Bio has acquired Matrix Food Technologies, a producer of plant-based edible nanofiber scaffolds and microbeads for use in cultivated protein. The acquisition will combine Matrix F.T.'s patents, trade secrets, and data with Nexture Bio's technology and expertise, expanding the company's portfolio of animal-component-free microcarriers, scaffolds, and cell-attachment factors. This move will allow Nexture Bio to better serve customers in the food and life sciences industries worldwide.

Founded in 2023 by the Generation Food Rural Partners Fund, Nexture Bio aims to fill a gap in the market by developing novel scaffoldings for whole-cut products to support the cultivated meat industry. The company recently launched its first microcarrier product and is in the process of renovating a pilot-scale Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) production facility. With a focus on promoting adherent cell culture at scale, Nexture Bio is positioned to meet the growing demand for food-safe, animal-component-free scaffolds in the industry.
