Novonesis Moves to Take Full Ownership of Australian Yeast Specialist MicroBioGen

Danish biosolutions company Novonesis has signed an agreement to acquire Australian biotechnology firm MicroBioGen, a company they have collaborated with for over a decade. This move will give Novonesis complete ownership of a company they have already invested in, with the goal of strengthening their yeast and research and development capabilities. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and regulatory clearance is required before the acquisition can be completed.

MicroBioGen, founded in 2001 as a spin-out from Macquarie University, specializes in industrial yeast strains and has a library of elite genetics for Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The company provides yeast innovation services for various industries, including bioethanol, sustainable feed, and food applications. Novonesis sees this acquisition as a strategic move to deepen their yeast expertise and drive growth as part of their 2030 strategy, while also continuing to support MicroBioGen's existing partners and collaborations.
