Allie Taylor has been appointed as the new director of the Mayor’s Office of Animal Welfare in NYC, where she will advise and assist Mayor Mamdani on animal welfare issues. Taylor, the founder of Voters For Animal Rights, expressed her honor in continuing to fight for animals in her new role, citing the connections between human and animal well-being and the need for a more humane city. She emphasized the importance of making veterinary care, spay/neuter services, and affordable pet care accessible to all New Yorkers.
Taylor acknowledged that the achievements in animal welfare did not happen because of one person, but because of the collective efforts of many New Yorkers. Before her current role, she led campaigns to ban wild animals in circuses, backyard breeding, and foie gras sales. In a similar move towards animal welfare, Mayor Mamdani appointed Siddhartha Sanchez, a lifelong vegan and food justice advocate, to direct food policy to ensure access to healthy food as a basic human right for all New Yorkers.
