One Dead And Hundreds Ill As UKHSA Declares National Salmonella Outbreak

The UK Health Security Agency has declared a national salmonella outbreak after one person died and hundreds became ill. The outbreak, linked to foods made with imported eggs, has affected 207 people, with the majority of cases in England. Investigations are ongoing to identify the sources of contamination, with most cases involving foods prepared outside of the home.

Salmonella is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans. In the US, the FDA issued a recall of 1.6 million dozen eggs over salmonella concerns. At least 98 people across 17 states have been infected, with 26 hospitalized. People are advised to watch out for symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, and fever, with vulnerable groups urged to avoid runny eggs and seek medical attention if experiencing relevant symptoms.
