Paw-zempic: UK Startup Teases Plant-Based Weight-Loss Supplement for Dogs

UK startup Omni Pet has introduced a plant-based weight-loss supplement for dogs called LeanPaws to combat canine obesity, with nearly half of all UK dogs being overweight. Inspired by the GLP-1 hormone targeted by human weight-loss medications like Ozempic, LeanPaws is a natural, drug-free supplement designed to mimic its effects. In a trial, 77% of overweight dogs who took LeanPaws experienced weight loss with minimal side effects, demonstrating its effectiveness in reducing body fat composition and increasing satiety.

Omni is working with the University of Nottingham to co-author a scientific paper on LeanPaws and is considering a waitlist-style business model for its launch in 2026. The pet nutrition market is growing, with pet owners prioritizing their pets' wellbeing. Omni's founders aim for an exit in the next three to five years, hoping to be acquired by a larger pet food company for around £150 million.
