PETA Debuts Silicone Fetal Pig Model to Replace Animals in Classroom Dissection

PETA has introduced the Kind Piglet, a silicone fetal pig model, as a humane alternative to real animals in high school biology dissection classes. The model features color-coded organs, requires no preservatives, and is reusable, providing a cost-effective and safer option for teachers. PETA estimates that around 500,000 fetal pigs are used in US classrooms each year, and the Kind Piglet aims to address the animal welfare concerns associated with traditional dissection practices.

The launch of the Kind Piglet is part of PETA's ongoing campaign to replace animal use in various sectors, with a focus on modernizing their approach under new president Tracy Reiman. Reiman, who personally refused to participate in a fetal pig dissection as a student, believes that students deserve to explore science without discomfort or harm to animals. By providing a mammalian alternative to traditional dissection specimens, PETA hopes to promote a more ethical and inclusive approach to science education.
