PETA Suggests Replacing Groundhog on “Groundhog Day” with a Cake

PETA has suggested replacing Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who predicts the weather on Groundhog Day, with a "weather reveal" cake. The animal rights organization believes that Phil and his family should be retired to a sanctuary and replaced with a cake that would reveal either blue or pink to signify six more weeks of winter or an early spring.

Ingrid Newkirk, PETA President, stated that groundhogs, like Phil, deserve to live their lives naturally, rather than being used for a traditional gimmick. PETA hopes to bring awareness to the exploitation of animals and suggests a cake makeover for Groundhog Day to celebrate the holiday in a more ethical and humane way.
