Petland Sued for Allegedly Selling Puppy With Devastating Brain Damage

Carla Hutson is taking Petland to court for allegedly selling her a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy with devastating brain damage. The puppy, Seven, was diagnosed with a genetic defect that caused his brain to be pushed through the opening at the back of his skull. Despite spending thousands on veterinary care, Hutson had to surrender Seven to a rescue group due to the associated costs. The lawsuit also alleges that Petland misrepresented the health of the puppies it sells and failed to disclose common genetic ailments in purebred dogs.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed is known to suffer from various health issues, including skulls too small for their brains, leading to Chiari-like malformation. Hutson's lawsuit seeks monetary damages, coverage of veterinary care, and a court order preventing Petland from making misleading claims about puppy health.
