Pets Choice to Acquire Vegan Dog Food Brand Hownd, With Founders Exiting the Business

Pets Choice has acquired vegan dog food brand Hownd, with the founders exiting the business. The deal, described as positive, will see co-founders Jo Amit and Mark Hirschel leaving the brand in Pets Choice's hands. Pets Choice, a legacy manufacturer, will take over operations from August 5, owning 100% of the Hownd brand.

Hownd, known for its ethical and environmentally-friendly dog food range, decided to sell due to industry headwinds and tough market conditions. Despite their success, the founders saw that Pets Choice could scale the brand more efficiently. With mergers and acquisitions increasing in the plant-based space, the move reflects a larger trend in the food industry, with tough macroeconomic conditions being a driving factor in these deals.
